About

modifythevan is a vehicle for creative mischief centred around Robin Grey and friends.

In it’s current incarnation it is mostly a music production house (or maybe small hut) and a net-label releasing music under creative commons licenses.

We also occasionally do ukulele workshops when it is sunny and are back at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival again this year bringing folk music to The Pleasance

——-

Over the last eleven years we have produced live music events, theatre shows and short films, recorded folk, electronica and spoken word, run music workshops and modified the occasional van.

Mattel have threatened to sue us in ‘The Times’ over a promotional barbie doll, Cameron Mackintosh invited us for lunch, The Pleasance poached us to be their ukulele evangelists, Gunther Von Hagens offered us plastinates from his Bodyworlds exhibition for our theatre set and The Royal Academy Of Music allowed us to take over their lovely gaff for a day to raise money for The Elton John Aids Foundation.

Starting out on the campus of The University Of Leeds in 2001, modifythevan cut its teeth running events connected to The Jonny Berliner Band such as ‘One Night Only’ pictured top left.

——-

Lured up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with the promise of fun and fortune we made quite a splash with our toast based publicity campaign for Jonny Berliner’s residency at C Venues.

As well as music we got into theatre with Jonny Berliner and Sheridan Humphrey’s rock and roll kids musical ‘Dude! Where’s My Teddy Bear’ and ‘Corpus’, a musical by Jonny Berliner and Fintan O’Higgins

Dude went on transfering to London with the Ambassadors Group and modifythevan followed it south to the big smoke.

——-

Nesting in east London, modifythevan is now passionately into folk music and recently set up a lovely studio called ‘The Blue Door’ with audio genius Dean Firth in Dalston Culture House.

As a net-label releasing music under creative commons licenses, modifythevan currently has seven releases which have together been downloaded over 30,000 times.
